SaunaDream saunas are made of the highest quality Burmese Hemlock, which has the longest life span of any wood used in the industry and twice the life of white pine.

Our hemlock wood does not give off toxins, under high temperatures, which pine, cedar, and sitka wood do.

Cedar and Pine wood both contain the irritant allergen plicatic acid, a carboxylic acid from the resin acid group naturally found in thuja and cypress resin. While Plicatic Acid is the main allergen present in thuja wood, the primary irritant found in pine wood is abietic acid.) The highest concentration of plicatic acid can be found in western red cedar, but eastern arborvitae and sugi woods contain plicatic acid in significant proportions as well. Exposition to plicatic acid or thuja wood dust worsens asthma and provokes allergic reactions.
